Erik Petersen, the new director of the Encore Singers as of August 2012, has been singing in the Encore Singers from the very beginning. He is the son of Chuck Petersen, the group’s founder, and Claire Petersen, who has also been singing in the group since its beginning and who was instrumental in forming the group.

In 1993, he joined a singing group and traveled for three months throughout the United States and Canada. A few years later, he moved to Greensboro to attend UNCG where he studied music and eventually met his wife…who now sings in the group.

Erik has performed in over 40 weddings, sung in numerous a cappella groups (including the General Assembly barbershop group of Raleigh and the Spartones of UNCG), numerous show choirs, vocal ensembles, and quartets. He has also led praise bands, served as a vocal coach to emerging artists, taught piano lessons, performed at coffeehouses and many other venues with his wife, and produced, recorded, and mixed two albums in addition to many singles. He has even appeared as a guest artist on two hip hop albums.

Erik is excited about carrying out the vision that his father had for the group.
